While all of the guided tours will take you through the museums, we offer varying degrees of specialization and detail to best fit your desires. The General Guided Museum Tour is our most frequent tour that occurs. This tour hits the highlights of our museums while you are accompanied by one of our knowledgeable guides. The Family Guided Museum Tour focuses more on our younger guests. If you would like a tour that is geared towards those 12 year old and younger, this is the one for you! The Themed Guided Museum Tour is a different style of tour. Instead of the more general history of Appalachia, track varying topics such as Women in Appalachian History or the creation of the United States through our museums. All tours last approximately 90 minutes and occur on days we are not open to the public. A paying adult is required to accompany guests 12 years old and younger.
Help care for our animals! Join a member of our animal care team as they go through their daily duties. Activities possible include feeding the animals, cleaning their pens, and taking care of their areas in the 90-minute time slots. Be sure to wear adequate clothing for being outdoors and walking in mud! A paying adult is required to accompany guests 12 years old and younger.
Learn how a blacksmith prepares and works. This 3-4 hour class with our blacksmith will show you not only the skills needed, but also the lessons of faith that can be learned through them. Participants must be at least 13 years old, and participants ages 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult. The accompanying adult may either pay to participate, or purchase an observer pass.
